The Seed You Carry
I love to read from the book of John. The way he views Jesus and our life in Him is so inspiring.
Breath of Heaven by Amy Grant
This morning I was listening to the song Breath of Heaven sung by Amy Grant. There is a phrase in there that says… chosen me now to carry your son, I am waiting in silent prayer; I am frightened by the load I bear in a world as cold as stone…
Mary held the baby Jesus in her own body, her womb. This song imagines how she might have felt with the enormity of her chosen task. We see it now from this side of the event, and we can feel the weightiness of it for her.
Then something occurred to me. Jesus was and is the Word. As Christ's followers, we have all been given a seed of the Word. A seed or seeds that we are called to nurture and allow to grow in us, just as Mary did Jesus.
We Are Called to Give to the World
As it comes to maturity in us we are called to give it to the world, just as Mary gave us Jesus. Not to diminish the task laid out for Mary, the mother of our Christ, but what if we felt the same weightiness for the Word which we carry inside?
What if when the seed is sown in us, we asked and sought for comprehension, so that the evil one cannot come and snatch it away from us? Matthew 13:19 see below
Or, what if when the seed is sown in us, we allow it to take root in us so that when affliction and trouble come; the word isn’t temporary in us but rooted deep in us to anchor us to the one who is faithful and just and keeps us? Matthew 13:20-21 see below
Or, what if when the seed is sown in us, we do not allow the cares of this life and the glamour and deceitfulness of riches to suffocate it out of us, causing us to bear no fruit? Matthew 13:22 see below
What if, like Mary, we determined to be good soil so that the seed sown in us and that is growing inside us grows to maturity, so we can sow seeds from its abundant bounty?
Give it Some Weight
Let me challenge you today to feel the same weightiness of what has been sown inside of you as Mary did. Then to guard it and tend it, just as Mary also cared for our unborn Christ.
The world is waiting on our delivery. The world is crying out for deliverance. The world is crying out for a miracle. As Christ's followers, we all have a calling to receive the word, nurture it, then spread its seed to those who need it.
I am not referring to opinions. We have way too many of those and have done enough damage by sowing those unnecessarily. I am talking about the Good News. I am talking about the revealed truth of the Word.
Opinions Do Not Equal Truth
To withhold those seeds is just as cruel as withholding seeds of grain from the hungry. Will you feel the weight of the seeds of the Word that you carry within you and ask God your role in sowing that seed?
I want to encourage you to leave me any comments below. They are so encouraging and motivating to me.

Check Engine Light - is yours on?
Let me ruffle some more feathers here (I seem to be so good at it). I take issue with the little ‘ask Jesus into your heart’ prayers we tack on to the end of our religious box sessions. That does not lead to being born again. At best, it may allow those saying it to realize that there is a need in their life to allow Jesus to help them change and by saying that prayer sincerely they are acknowledging that something in their life needs to change and they give that to Jesus, which is amazing. But...
